Mathematics Learning We have loved learning about place value for 3 digit numbers (and beyond!) over the last fortnight.  Students have been learning how to write, draw, make and order numbers and developing their understanding about our number system, how numbers work and their meaning. Upcoming Events:   Wednesday 21st February - AGM -  Wednesday night is the school's annual AGM starting at 6pm.  Please come along if you are available. Friday 23rd February - Opening Mass  - We will come together as a whole school to celebrate Mass at 9.30am at our church Our Lady of the Southern Cross. It would be wonderful to see as many parents there as possible. Spelling  This week our schedule, routines and specialist timetable are in full swing. This has meant that this week we began our spelling rotations between the Year 1-3 students. The junior primary PLD phonic spelling program at OLC ensures your child is provided with appropriate explicit instruction and spelling phonic concepts and words suited to their individual needs and abilities.  These lessons take place in the morning after morning fitness Monday to Wednesday.  Your child will be given a list on Monday morning which will be glued into their light blue Look, Cover, Write, Check homework pad and kept in their

Week 3 Term 1

Reading Homework  Tonight your child came home with a R.E.D. reading folder containing a home reader book in addition to their Think Mentals maths book.  Please listen to your child read aloud each night for 10 minutes and complete the pages/chapters read tonight and sign it each night.  Book level/difficulty ratings have been selected from information provided by your child's teacher last year.  Please note that it is common for your child to find their book either too easy or too hard due to the long summer break and depending on how much reading has taken place during this period.  Levels are likely to change over the next week as your child may not have yet individually read to their teacher to assess their current reading skills and needs.  However, please feel free to come and see us or send an email if you have any queries regarding your child's home reading.  Questions regarding the routine and focus areas of nightly reading and other homework requirements will be an

Upcoming Events: Thursday 8th Februrary: - Swimming begins tomorrow!  Tuesday 13th February - Parent Information Evening (more information in this week's school newsletter) Wednesday 14th February: Ash Wednesday School Mass Wednesday 14th February: Last day of swimming lessons Week 1 - What a great start! Our first few days of Year 2 were brilliant! We have all settled in so well to Year 2 and ready for a busy year ahead of learning and fun. Swimming Lessons begin Wednesday 8th February for Year 2 We are last group on the day, leaving school at 11:30am for a 12:15pm lesson.  The children will be participating in 2 x 40 minute lessons, with a 10-minute break in the middle. We will bring the children’s Crunch&Sip snack to the pool, along with their drink bottles to help them restore some energy during this break time.
