Science Oral Presentation
Today your child will be bringing home some information on their upcoming oral presentation. Below is a copy of the note that will be sent home today for your reference.  Your child will be presenting on either Wednesday 25th or Thursday 26th September (no longer Tuesday 24th due to carnival date change).

Science Procedure Oral Presentation

This term in chemical science we have been learning about materials and combining them to make mixtures.  In English we are also reviewing procedural texts and so in keeping with this and instead of newstelling, students can prepare for an optional poster and oral presentation as their homework for Week 9 and 10 (in lieu of other regular maths and spelling homework).  The presentation will be to explain a procedure how to use or make a simple mixture of their choice.

Your child’s presentation date will be Wednesday 18th or Thursday 19th September.
Some examples of procedures for their presentation can include making or using a mixture of different materials:
  • How to make hot chocolate        - How to plant a sunflower seed       - How to wash some dishes
  • How to make a sandwich           - How to brush your teeth                  - How to make jelly
  • How to make a mask                  - How to make slime or oobleck       - How to feed a pet bird

Students can complete their own poster on the coloured card and add the template provided or write their own procedure on lined paper.  They can also add drawn pictures or photos for their posters (and bring in their pre-prepared item if they wish and if it is suitable).  It is intended that the posters and practising of presenting information formal for an audience should only take 10 minutes for a few nights and it is in replacement of other nightly homework for the last two weeks of this term.  Their presentation should only be about 1 ½ to 2 minutes long.

Our Learning Intention is to:
  • Identify a mixture in our everyday life
  • Explain a procedure how we use or make a mixture
  • Speak audibly, clearly and maintain eye contact with our audience.

Our Success Criteria: Students should be able to:
  • Identify the mixture they are making/using
  • Explain how they have made/used their mixture
  • Speak clearly, audibly and at a steady pace
  • Maintain eye contact with their audience
  • Present information in a logical sequence
  • Answer questions based on the information they present
If you have any questions, concerns or require additional materials, please feel free to speak to us.
Kind regards,
Amy McFarlane and Penny King
