Term 2 Week 9

BUSSELTON JETTY INCURSION
Last fortnight we had an amazing and informative incursion with some people from the Busselton Jetty.  We learnt all about the history of the jetty, the current pests and Toredo worms that they are working to remove to save the coral and the issue with litter in Geographe Bay.

LENGTH AND AREA
We have had an exciting two weeks learning all about length and area. We have explored what a centimetre is and what a metre is. We discovered you can find the lengths of things using different measuring tools, such as rulers and feet. We explored that if we measured in feet that everyone’s answer would be different because we all have a different foot size.  We were introduced to a Trundle Wheel and were amazed at how easily it can measure long distances. We had a very good think and estimated the length of our classroom and the length to the office. We showed great teamwork as we all worked together using the Trundle Wheel to find out that our classroom is 8 metres long and it is 17 metres long to the office. We couldn’t believe how far it actually was to the office.  We then had a good at using our own bodies as a informal unit of measurement.  Have you ever measured using Darcys, Maxs or Stellans before???

Last week we learnt that area is the space within a two-dimensional shape. We found the area of many different shapes using MAB blocks and unifix cubes. It was so much fun! We are now combining our knowledge about measuring length into a data collection project to find out the most common foot length and shoe size and recording it in the form of a pictograph and bar graph.

CROSS COUNTRY
Cross Country is this Thursday 27th June. We have been practising running the Cross Country course and can’t wait to show off all our hard work on Thursday. We will be making our way down to the oval at 9am for a 9:15am start, beginning with the Year Ones first. A reminder that we need to wear our faction coloured t-shirts on Thursday and can bring along coloured decorations. We hope to see you all there cheering us on!

This will be weather/lightning dependent so please keep an eye out for any communications from the OLC Admin to advise of any changes.
