Week 4 Term 1 2020

Good morning all,

What a wild week we have had!  Lunch duty on Wednesday was an interesting one with the kids watching the lightning and  hearing the thunder rolling in, bunkering in the hall until the heavens opened up and it rained so hard that a few 1/2K members and I watched the drains become full flowing fountains!

Ash Wednesday
On Wednesday the school participated in the Ash Wednesday prayer service in the hall.  This marked the first day in the church season of lent.  We have talked about making Lenten promises for the next 40 days and things we can give up, do for others and how we can donate to those in need.

Parent Roster
Due to the short week next week with Monday being a  public holiday and swimming lessons in week 6, the Year One and Two team have decided to start parent roster in week 7. Parent roster will run Monday- Thursday from 8.40-10.40am. I will pop a roster outside our door - we would love to have you in!  Please only put your name down once to allow other parents an opportunity to come in.

Gathering Time
Across the early childhood area classrooms, we have noticed that gathering time is getting rather loud and busy with many bodies and we have had a few complaints about the noise level from those children who can be quite sensitive to loud talking. Please be aware that this year OLC changed times to 10 minutes and that there is no new learning that happens during gathering time and it it simply a time for children to:

- Put their sip and crunch on the desk and collect a chair
-Complete their RED reading file
- Independently complete a short activity/read a book

Mrs Peacock/Mrs Edwards and I are in the room to support the children, so if you would like to 'kiss and drop' your child at the door any day in addition to our  'Fun Friday', you are more than welcome to do this - it is a great way to continue to promote independence and resilience. If you require to talk to me about something important, please send me an email in advance, as it can be difficult to chat in the mornings with 25 little team members also requiring my time and assistance. As soon as the bell goes at 8.40am, the children know that we need to go straight out for fitness to join the rest of the school.  Signed notes or permission slips of any sort can be delivered into my letterbox which is kept next to the sign in book at the doorway.

If your child arrives right on 8.40am bell, your child is aware they are to just put down their things on their desk and drop their homework folder in the big folder box and they will complete the reading log during roll and morning meeting time when we return.

Homework
Homework is due this Friday the 28th of February. Could you please ensure your child brings their R.E.D reading file AND homework book inside their homework folder so that I am able to glue in next fortnights homework tasks.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions at all.
Thank you for your on going support,
Penny and Gemma.
