Week 8 Term 3

MERIT AWARD WINNERS!!!!

Last week we had two amazing winners of a well-deserved merit award for their hard work and dedication.

Dakin has been working so hard to improve his writing and his perseverance to all his work is admirable.  He wrote an amazing description with lots of adjectives and different sentence starters to keep his reader's interest and attention.

Adele has also been putting in maximum effort in her writing and consistently works towards her writing goals.  Her latest narrative writing has detail, character dialogue and lots of action - what every great adventure story needs!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

It's that time of year that we participate in the 'Operation Christmas Child' shoe box initiative that has been a wonderful OLC tradition for many years and reflects our school value of Compassion so well. These shoe boxes are sent to underprivileged children throughout the world as a gift for Christmas.

The children will be placed into in groups of four and between them, they will fill a shoe box with a variety of items. The items do not need to be expensive. Each child in the group will be asked to cover the cost of sending the shoe box to its final destination. We ask them to bring in $2.50 each. The children will be given time in the classroom to pack the shoe box and explore some of the places that their shoe boxes may be travelling to.

Please see the flyer below for further information:

WHEELIE, WALKIE, WASTE-FREE WEDNESDAY ๐Ÿšฒ๐Ÿšถ‍♀️๐Ÿšถ‍♀️๐ŸŒŸ

Our first day of WWWW was on last week and despite the awful weather we had a surprising number of students walk/ride to school and a great number ensure they brought waste-free lunches.

Our Wheelie, Walkie, Waste -Free Wednesdays will commence again next Wednesday and continue for 2 more weeks:

Week 8 (9th September)
Week 9 (16th September)

MISSION MARKETS

On the last day of school (Thursday the 24th of September) the children will be participating in our annual feast day - The assumption of Mary.

Each class is asked run a stall and this year the combined Year 2 classes will be running the pre-loved store so please start sending in those items that are unwanted such as books and toys that you think would be loved by another OLC child!  Donations can be suitable for buyers of any age 4-12 years as this is a very popular stall school-wide.  Donations can be from either year 1 or 2 or from other classes too!

The Year 1 students are also combining to run the popcorn stall and we are asking for each family from Year 1 to donate a bag of popping corn so we can sell some sweet and salty popcorn to raise money for Project Compassion. Please pop the popping corn in the box labelled Mission Markets out the front of our room.

On the Mission Markets day, students will come to school with a maximum amount of $5 in the junior primary years in small denominations - please put this in a wallet/purse or zip-lock bag. Please make sure these are clearly labelled. I also suggest that students possibly also need to bring in their own carry bag to use on this day.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
- School Photos - Thursday 10th & Friday 11th September
- Feast Day & Mission Markets - Thursday 24th September (Students last day of Term 3)
- Pupil Free Day (Staff PD) - Friday 25th September

WEEK 7 and 8 - HOMEWORK

Homework is due this Friday the 11th of September, please let me know if you need another copy of anything. If your child is not going to be at school Friday, please feel free to send their homework book in earlier.

Please continue with your reading every night and if you'd like to substitute school reading books, with home reading books, feel free to do so.

Phew....I think that is everything!
