Week 3 Term 3

Week 3 - Term 3
Well here we are - nearly at the end of our third week back!  The team in 1/2K have been working hard in all subject areas and are definitely deserving their weekend breaks to recuperate and coming in each Monday with enthusiasm and raring to go again!

This week we have continued to work on persuasive text writing, learning about the v and ve spelling words and rules, parts of speech and grammar to learn about adjectives, sound swaps in spelling, reading passages and answering comprehension questions with full sentences and not fragment answers, learning about division and sharing and how it relates to what we know about repeated addition and multiplication, weather and day/night changes, natural resources on planet each and in digital technology learning about hardware and software - and this isn't even all of it! Phew!

Merit award winner
Congratulations to Manoa who was the merit award winner for last week. It was lovely to have this award read out for his peers to hear!  Manoa has been working hard to challenge himself and has been writing some incredible persuasive paragraphs during writing with detailed examples and explanations.  Manoa has also been working with dedication, learning about multiplication with interest and focus to continue to build on his understanding about times tables its connection with repeated addition.

This week's merit award winner was Boh.  Boh has proven herself to be a very effective persuasive writer, remembering to include reasons and examples to convince her reader to agree with her opinion.  She has also shown that she is also a mathematics multiplication star with her understanding of multiplication sums, groups of pictures to represent them and is an array drawing queen! Well done, Boh!

Homework
Thank you to all the parents for your efforts with homework the last fortnight. We have really noticed an increase in the children's reading and spelling skills since returning to Term 3 and have loved when they come in so proud of their speed reading times from their spelling words. We have also seen great results when comparing your child's pre and post spelling test results each fortnight.

Homework is due next Friday the 14th of August and if you could please ensure your child brings this with them everyday including on Fridays so we can review how they have been going with work completed at home and it assists us to set up the grids and spelling words for the next fortnight.
It is important that your child continues to read their reading book out loud to you every night for 10 min (no matter what their level is), read and time their fluency grid words and you call out their spelling words or a handful of fluency grid words aloud for them to practise writing on some scrap paper (5 min) most nights - research shows that daily practise of reading and related phonemic grouped spelling can have great effects on literacy skills and future academic success and we are sure your child would appreciate that just 15 min of an afternoon, evening or morning is set aside and prioritized for their learning.

Your child should have brought home an order form last week. Please check in with Mrs Marrell if your child has not given it to you yet.

Communication
Please feel free to email us if you have any questions or would like to let us know anything.  With the reduced number of parents dropping at door and continued phase 4 restrictions, please feel free to email us with any changes to their usual going home procedure rather than the previously used communication book.

Thank you for your continued support,
Penny and Gemma
