Week 4 Term 3

Here we are again!
I am so proud of all of the 2K team who lead such a beautiful prayer assembly on Friday.  They spoke so clearly and confidently into the microphone to share their thoughts and images of the special Lord's Prayer.
Week 4 Learning Topics
Reading: We are learning to infer when we read words and pictures in a text.  Good readers use clues from the text to understand the author's message and make meaning with the text.
Writing: We are learning to write a persuasive text about which pet is best.  We are learning to write an introduction, state our opinion, write reasons and include explanations and details to help persuade our reader to agree with our point of view.
Mathematics: We are learning to write division sentences and solve division problems.
Science: We are learning about the three R's: reduce, reuse and recycle
HASS: Aboriginal connection to land and country
Visual Arts: We are learning to use lines and shapes to create a cat picture with personality inspired by the artist Laurel Burch.

Family Mass

The combined Year 2 classes will be the next OLC family Mass is being held on Saturday 17th commencing at 6pm in our Parish Church. The year 2 class members will be leading various aspects of the Mass. It would be great to be able to see as many year 2 families there as possible.

OLC Feast Day and Mission Markets

Next Thursday the 15th of August we have our mission markets! We are asking for donations of pre-loved items.  Feel free to pass this onto other OLC families - donations welcome from all!  Please drop them off in the outdoor verandah area of the Year 2 classrooms.
We would also really love some parent helpers for the day:

We are asking for helpers to before (Wednesday 14th) from 2.00pm - 3.00pm to sort and price the items.

OR

Help man our pre-loved stall at the mission Markets from 11.30am - 12.45pm on Thursday 15th August.

If you can help on either of these days, please email me...we would be most appreciative!

On the Mission Markets day, students will come to school with a maximum amount of $5 in the junior primary years in small denominations - please put this in a wallet/purse or zip-lock bag. Please make sure these are clearly labelled. I also suggest that students possibly also need to bring in their own carry bag to use on this day.

We will be walking to the OLOSC church in the morning for morning mass (weather permitting, otherwise in the school hall)  to celebrate our feast day with the Assumption of Mary.  Mass will begin at 9.30am and you are most welcome to join us.

Please note that this day is not free dress and students are required to wear their usual sports uniform.
Friendology
We started our Friendology scenarios on Friday with great success.  The students enjoyed learning to make conversations and how to start new friendships in a easy and fun way.  If your child still hasn't brought in a small soft toy yet, please do so.  Mr Torrese will be visiting us this week to help us learn more about Friendology at OLC.

Homework - Students should be completing Unit 23 this week in their Mental Maths books.  I will continue to collect these every Friday this term to review and I thank you in advance for marking these daily alongside your child to enable them to receive immediate feedback This week, please continue to listen to your child read aloud to you for 10 minutes each night and practise spelling each of their spelling words most nights either aloud or written in their yellow pads.
