Learning:
Mathematics
This week we have been learning about fractions as our mathematics focus concept. In Year 2, students are expected to learn about fractions of half, quarters and eighths of both 2D shapes and collections or groups of objects. The concept of a fraction of a group of objects is often difficult to understand so please encourage your child to get out a number of similar things like marbles, pasta pieces or crayons and show you how they can sort them into equal sets to show how many are in half of that collection, what is a quarter of that group and how many are in an eighth of a group. Feel free to see me if you would like any additional information or try Google for 'introduction to fractions' 2nd grade videos or try videos on 'fractional parts of a set/collection' if you would like more information or support to help your child at home.
Please complete Unit 24 for maths homework this week.

Our visiting birds are getting more mischievous at OLC and many things have been taken directly from school bags including recess, lunches and even a recorder was taken from a student's bag!! While we are doing our best to remind students before and after break times after several losses, many students are not independently putting away their lunch boxes and zipping up their school bags. Please remind and encourage your child to remember to zip up their lunch box and also their school bag to help minimise the chances of this happening and ensure your child can enjoy their delicious food at every break instead of feeding our feathered friends!
